This project delivered a vital 2-storey extension to the existing First Columbarium within the constrained Tsuen Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery. Our integrated role encompassed full architectural design, project management, and statutory AP duties.
The primary challenge involved constructing the new structure seamlessly over the cemetery's active internal access road, demanding zero disruption to essential operations. We designed and implemented a robust temporary steel deck formwork system, enabling safe construction overhead while traffic flowed uninterrupted below.
The extension provides 2,086 additional niches, significantly increasing capacity. Critically, we integrated a new vertical elevator, vastly improving accessibility for visitors to the original 1980s columbarium building. The result is a functionally enhanced, respectful addition that meets the community's needs while overcoming significant logistical constraints on a sensitive site.
